“Our friends just had a second baby. I gave the first child a gift when they were born; should I get them a sibling gift now?”
If you have had more than one child or grandchild, it isn’t hard to imagine how early sibling rivalry can start especially when all the fuss is over the fresh newborn. The sweet sibling doesn’t require a large gift but it certainly is a thoughtful gesture to bring something along for them especially if they will be present when you give the baby a gift.
We like to think about giving the sibling something that makes them feel special and grown up and even teaches a bit about caring for another. Of course, the age of the sibling is a consideration. If the child is old enough, parents often do appreciate gifts that can keep them busy with little supervision. Younger children do love the one-on-one time of being read a book as well.
