Ready for some good news, Lebo?
Notes from our Kindness Crates are on their way. Hosted by our friends at Commonwealth Press, Lebo Subs, Rollier’s, and Sapling & Sons, the crates collect responses to the prompt: “Please share who or what you’re grateful for today, an act of kindness someone did for you, or a moment that brought you hope.”
But first, a good-neighbor alert!
Did yinz know that, over the past 16 years, Suzan and Gary Schultz of Outlook Drive have raised more than $200,000 and collected more than 9,000 pounds of food for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank?
Every year on a Sunday in June, they set up shop right in their driveway, eager to welcome friends and neighbors while encouraging conversation and connection. And did I mention there’s a cookie table?
Dozens of homemade cookies and fresh lemonade are served by neighborhood “Cookie Ambassadors.” This year, the ambassadors even helped younger children create colorful sidewalk art.
The 2026 Mount Lebanon Food Drive was a record-breaking success, with more donors than ever before. The final totals are impressive: 425 pounds of food and — drumroll, please — $42,158.72. Every ounce of food and every dollar collected goes directly to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
Suzan and Gary’s grassroots legacy is deeply inspiring and serves as a reminder of the profound impact ordinary people can have when they follow their hearts.
To Suzan, Gary, the Cookie Ambassadors and everyone who donated to this worthy cause: yinz are good!

• A moment that brought me joy was when my friend said I could name her 3D printed dragon.

• I’m grateful for being alive today! My neighbor, Dave, took my garbage cans in and helped me remove my beeping backup battery on my garage door. He has been helping me since my husband died. Grateful for the help and kindness of volunteers for the St. Michael Archangel Rummage Sale.
