Meet Ward 2 Commissioner-Elect Margaret Izzo

Longtime Mt. Lebanon resident plans to focus on safety, green spaces and fiscal responsibility

By Stacey Reibach

Commissioner-elect Margaret Izzo has been a Mt. Lebanon resident for 25 years. She raised her two children here—they are graduates of Markham, Mellon and Mt. Lebanon High School. Izzo grew up in Springfield, Illinois, and attended the University of Illinois. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law and practiced commercial litigation before dedicating her time to community service and pro bono legal work.

Asked what issues her constituents raised during her door-to-door campaigning, Izzo said many residents voiced concerns about pedestrian and vehicular safety in the walking community. One of her stated priorities is “working with constituents to build more sidewalks and incorporate more traffic-calming measures.”

Izzo shared that “residents also indicated that they would like better maintenance of our green spaces, and I would like to focus on working to protect and enhance our parks and recreational facilities while ensuring fiscal responsibility and safeguarding taxpayer resources.” She also wants to maintain safe, vibrant residential neighborhoods and thriving business districts.

Commissioner-elect Izzo is not new to giving back to the community. She has served on the Mt. Lebanon Civic Engagement Board for the past five years, as well as serving as a community mediator, helping Mt. Lebanon neighbors resolve issues. She is currently on the board of the Mt. Lebanon Community Foundation and was previously on the board of Outreach Teen and Family Services.

Izzo honors her late husband, Todd, who passed away in 2019, by giving back to the community that supported her family during their difficult time. These acts of service and her community involvement influenced her decision to run for Ward 2 commissioner.

Commissioner-elect Izzo will be sworn in on Tuesday, Jan. 6.
